The IRWIN 49617 is a brad point drill bit designed for clean, accurate entry holes in wood and wood-based materials. The brad point tip centers itself on the workpiece before cutting, reducing wander and tear-out at entry. Built from carbon steel with a bright finish, this bit measures 7/16 inch in diameter with a 3-11/16 inch flute length and an overall length of 5-19/32 inches. The 3/8 inch shank diameter is compatible with standard drill chucks. It features two flutes for efficient chip evacuation during drilling. Carpenters, finish contractors, and cabinet installers commonly use this bit for furniture assembly, cabinet hinge prep, and general wood boring tasks.
This bit is suited for residential and light commercial woodworking applications where a clean entry hole is required. Typical use cases include furniture assembly, decking, shelving installation, and cabinetry. The brad point geometry is particularly effective in solid wood, plywood, MDF, and particleboard. The 3/8 inch shank fits a wide range of corded and cordless drills commonly used on job sites and in shop environments.
Designed as a standard brad point drill bit for use in any 3/8 inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck, corded or cordless.
This bit is installed and operated by carpenters, woodworkers, and general contractors using standard corded or cordless drills. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent movement. Keep the drill speed appropriate for the material density to avoid overheating the carbon steel cutting edge. Do not use this bit on metal, masonry, or tile surfaces.
