The IPS 83644 is a long-style pneumatic test ball plug designed for pressure testing drain, waste, and vent (DWV) plumbing systems. Made from natural rubber, this plug inflates via a standard car-tire valve to seal pipe interiors during sewer air tests. It fits pipe inside diameters from 3.5 to 4.25 inches and holds an allowable test and back pressure of 13 psi with an inflation pressure of 30 psi. A ring and chain assembly prevents the plug from being drawn into the DWV line during testing. A 3-foot extension hose is included. Licensed plumbers and journeymen use this plug for pressure testing PVC and similar pipe during rough-in inspections.
The IPS 83644 is suited for residential and light commercial sewer air testing applications. Its 4-inch nominal diameter targets common drain line sizes encountered during new construction and remodel work. The included extension hose allows inflation access from outside the pipe run, reducing the need to reach into confined spaces. This plug is appropriate for use in PVC pipe and similar smooth-bore DWV piping where a temporary pneumatic seal is required during code-required pressure testing procedures.
Designed for use in PVC pipe and DWV plumbing systems with an inside diameter range of 3.5 to 4.25 inches, making it a standard fit for 4-inch nominal drain, waste, and vent pipe applications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers during pressure testing of DWV systems, typically as required by the International Plumbing Code or applicable local code. Depressurize and clear the line before inserting or removing the plug. Do not exceed the rated inflation pressure of 30 psi or the allowable test pressure of 13 psi. Inspect the rubber plug for cuts or abrasions before each use to ensure a reliable seal.
