The IPS 513286 is a detectable underground warning tape designed to mark buried storm drain lines and protect them from accidental dig-in damage. The tape runs 3 inches wide and 1,000 feet long, providing substantial coverage for utility marking on residential and commercial projects. Printed with a Storm Drain identifier on a green background, it conforms to the industry color-coding standard for storm drainage systems. Licensed plumbers, utility contractors, and municipal crews use this tape during new installation and rehabilitation work to create a permanent below-grade warning layer above buried pipe.
This tape is intended for direct burial applications where a warning layer is required above a storm drain line. It is placed in the trench above the pipe before backfill, creating a detectable barrier that alerts excavation crews to the presence of a utility line below. The detectable construction allows it to be located with standard underground line-locating equipment, which is critical on congested utility corridors and job sites with multiple buried systems.
Designed for direct-burial use as an underground warning and identification layer above storm drain piping in residential and commercial utility installations.
Tape is placed by plumbers or utility contractors in the open trench, positioned above the pipe at a depth that allows detection before the pipe is struck during future excavation. Power down or isolate any energized systems in the work area before trench excavation begins. Follow applicable local codes and APWA color-code standards for utility marking. Do not stretch or splice the tape in ways that could compromise continuity of the detectable element.
