The IPEX 9897015 is a 1-1/2 inch CPVC Schedule 80 socket union designed for industrial and commercial piping systems that handle aggressive chemicals, high temperatures, or corrosive environments. Manufactured from Corzan chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), this union provides a removable, leak-resistant connection point in pressure-rated thermoplastic piping systems. Schedule 80 wall thickness delivers additional pressure capacity compared to Schedule 40, making it suitable for demanding process piping applications. Licensed plumbers and industrial pipefitters install this fitting where system disassembly for maintenance or equipment removal is required without cutting pipe.
This socket union is intended for use in chemical process piping, industrial fluid handling, and potable water distribution systems where metal corrosion is a concern. It is approved for potable water service per National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and CSA International listings. Typical applications include acid lines, salt solution transfer, halogen service, alcohol handling, and general industrial process piping. The socket-style connection bonds using CPVC solvent cement in standard fabrication procedures. It performs reliably in both aboveground and underground installations, where metal fittings are vulnerable to galvanic, electrochemical, or soil-induced corrosion.
Designed as an OEM-style component within the IPEX Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 Pipe, Valves and Fittings system, maintaining dimensional compatibility with other Schedule 80 CPVC pipe and fittings manufactured to standard thermoplastic piping dimensions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified industrial pipefitter familiar with thermoplastic solvent-cement joining procedures. Shut off system flow and depressurize the line fully before disassembling or installing any union fitting. Use only CPVC-rated solvent cement and primer — do not substitute PVC cement, as it is not compatible with CPVC material. Reference applicable plumbing codes, including the IPC and ASTM standards for thermoplastic piping, for pressure rating derating at elevated temperatures.
