The IPEX 9887040 is a Schedule 80 CPVC threaded nipple designed to connect two female-threaded (FPT) fittings in pressurized piping systems. Measuring 2 inches in diameter and 4 inches in length, this nipple is manufactured from Xirtec CPVC material rated for a maximum service temperature of 200 degrees F under continuous pressure, with occasional exposure to boiling water up to 212 degrees F. The design stress of CPVC is 2,000 psi at 73 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in hot and cold water distribution, chemical handling, and industrial process piping where corrosion resistance and thermal performance are required.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial plumbing systems where Schedule 80 wall thickness is specified for added pressure capacity. It is used in applications involving hot water service, industrial fluid handling, and any installation where metallic pipe corrosion is a concern. The Xirtec CPVC material is engineered to resist rust, pitting, scaling, and corrosion on both interior and exterior surfaces, making it a long-term, low-maintenance option in demanding environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 CPVC piping systems using standard NPT female-threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and ASTM standards for CPVC piping. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before cutting into any existing line or removing fittings. Use CPVC-compatible thread sealant or tape rated for thermoplastic fittings — do not use petroleum-based compounds, which can degrade CPVC. Avoid over-tightening threaded connections, as CPVC is not rated for the same torque loads as metal fittings.
