The IPEX 9861217 is a CPVC Schedule 80 threaded nipple sized at 1.5 inches by 5 inches, designed to connect two female-threaded (FPT) fittings in pressurized piping systems. Manufactured from Xirtec CPVC, this nipple carries a maximum service temperature of 200 degrees F under pressure, with occasional tolerance for boiling water at 212 degrees F. The material has a design stress rating of 2,000 psi at 73 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in hot and cold water distribution, chemical handling, and industrial fluid systems where metal corrosion is a concern.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial plumbing applications where CPVC Schedule 80 pipe and fittings are specified. Its male NPT threads on both ends make it a direct connector between any two FPT-ported components such as valves, unions, adapters, and tees. It is commonly used in hot water supply lines, industrial process piping, and corrosive-fluid systems where metal pipe would be subject to rust, pitting, or scaling over time.
Designed for use with Schedule 80 CPVC piping systems using standard NPT female-threaded fittings in hot and cold water distribution, industrial process, and chemical handling applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply a CPVC-compatible thread sealant or tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not use solvent-based pipe dope or thread compounds not rated for CPVC, as they can cause stress cracking.
