The IPEX 9861214 is a Schedule 80 CPVC threaded nipple designed to connect two female threaded (FPT) fittings in industrial and plumbing piping systems. Sized at 1-1/2 inches by 2 inches, this close nipple is manufactured from Xirtec CPVC, a material rated for a maximum service temperature of 200 degrees F under continuous pressure with occasional exposure to boiling water at 212 degrees F. The design stress of this CPVC compound is 2,000 psi at 73 degrees F, making it a reliable choice where thermal and pressure resistance are both required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This nipple is well suited for residential and commercial hot and cold water distribution, chemical processing lines, and industrial fluid handling applications where corrosion resistance is a priority. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides added pressure capacity compared to Schedule 40, making it appropriate for higher-demand service runs. Its FPT-compatible threaded ends mate directly with standard female-threaded valves, couplings, and fittings without adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 CPVC piping systems using standard NPT female-threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the supply line fully before cutting into any existing piping. Use CPVC-rated thread sealant or tape — do not use petroleum-based compounds, which can degrade CPVC. Hand-tighten first, then apply minimal additional turns with a strap wrench to avoid cracking the fitting body.
