The IPEX 36656 is a PVC Schedule 80 male x female bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch male threaded connection to a 1/2-inch female threaded port. Schedule 80 PVC wall thickness provides elevated pressure ratings compared to Schedule 40, making this bushing appropriate for industrial piping, chemical process lines, and commercial water systems where durability under sustained pressure is required. The material resists corrosion, oxidation, and a wide range of chemicals including acids, alcohols, alkalis, and salt solutions. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting as part of threaded PVC piping assemblies in both new construction and retrofit applications.
This bushing is suited for use in industrial process piping, chemical distribution lines, and commercial plumbing systems where a threaded reduction is needed between a 1-inch male pipe and a 1/2-inch female pipe. It is also listed for use with potable water systems, making it applicable in water treatment and municipal supply applications. The Xirtec PVC system from IPEX is engineered as a complete pipe, valves, and fittings package backed by a single manufacturer, reducing compatibility concerns across system components.
Designed for use within the IPEX Xirtec PVC Schedule 80 threaded piping system. Compatible with standard 1-inch male NPT and 1/2-inch female NPT threaded PVC pipe and fittings meeting Schedule 80 dimensional standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes including the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before making any threaded connections. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for PVC and plastic fittings — avoid over-tightening, as excessive torque can crack Schedule 80 threaded fittings. Do not use pipe dope compounds that contain solvents incompatible with PVC.
