The IPEX 36492 is a PVC Schedule 80 threaded nipple designed for use in pressure piping and potable water systems. Measuring 0.75 inches in diameter and 3 inches in overall length, it features male threaded connections on both ends for direct fitting-to-fitting or fitting-to-valve installation. Manufactured from rigid PVC compound meeting ASTM D1784, D1785, and D2467 specifications, this nipple delivers strong chemical and corrosion resistance across a broad range of fluid handling applications. Injection molded construction ensures uniform wall thickness and consistent thread engagement. The smooth interior bore minimizes pressure loss and supports higher flow volume compared to equivalent metal pipe fittings. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this component in both new construction and retrofit scenarios.
The IPEX 36492 is suited for residential and light commercial potable water systems where Schedule 80 PVC is specified for added pressure handling capability. Its gray finish and NSF-listed application make it appropriate wherever a threaded PVC nipple is required to connect fixtures, valves, or distribution headers. The 140 degrees F maximum temperature rating keeps it within the design envelope of cold and moderate hot water supply lines running under normal operating conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems rated for potable water service. Conforms to NSF standards applicable to drinking water contact materials.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and IPC requirements. Shut off system water supply and relieve line pressure fully before removing or installing threaded nipples. Use PTFE thread tape or a compatible thread sealant rated for PVC and potable water applications. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque; hand-tight plus a controlled additional turn with strap wrench is the standard practice for plastic-threaded fittings.
