The IPEX 36439 is a Schedule 80 PVC close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in potable water and industrial fluid systems. With male threaded connections on both ends, this fitting allows two female-threaded fittings or valves to be joined with minimal pipe extension between them. The gray PVC construction meets ASTM D1784, D1785, and D2467 material specifications and is rated to 140 degrees F. Its smooth interior walls reduce pressure loss and support higher flow volume compared to conventional metal fittings. Injection-molded construction ensures uniform wall thickness and consistent thread engagement across the fitting body. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of nipple during new construction and retrofit work.
This close nipple is suited for residential and light commercial potable water systems where a tight, minimal-length male-to-male threaded connection is required. It carries NSF certification for potable water contact, making it appropriate for domestic water supply lines, irrigation manifolds, filter housings, and similar plumbing assemblies. The Schedule 80 pressure rating makes it a stronger choice than Schedule 40 in applications where elevated line pressure or mechanical stress is a concern. Each unit measures 1-5/8 inches in overall length with a nominal pipe size of 1-1/4 inches on both ends.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for 1-1/4 inch Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems in potable water and general fluid handling applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water supply line before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and hand-tighten before applying a strap wrench — do not use pipe wrenches directly on PVC fittings, as overtightening can crack the fitting body. Inspect threads for damage before installation.
