The IPEX 257181 is a 1-1/2 inch flame-retardant polypropylene (FRPP) fusion 90-degree elbow, part of the Enfield electrofusion-joint system for chemical and acid waste drainage. It is engineered for corrosive waste piping applications where solvent-weld or mechanical joints are not suitable. The Enfield system uses a microprocessor-controlled fusion unit and heavy-gauge resistance wire molded directly into the socket to produce secure, repeatable joints in approximately two minutes. This fitting is listed to NSF 14 and IAPMO standards and complies with ASTM F1412. Licensed plumbers and corrosive-waste piping contractors are the primary installers.
The 257181 elbow is used in chemical waste drainage systems found in laboratories, research facilities, industrial plants, and educational or healthcare facilities where corrosive effluent must be conveyed safely. The Enfield FRPP system is suited for non-return-air plenum environments and handles an operating temperature range of -10 degrees F to 212 degrees F, allowing systems to be flushed with boiling water. FRPP construction also eliminates the breakage risk associated with glass or ceramic drainage systems.
Designed for use within the IPEX Enfield electrofusion corrosive waste drainage system. Pipe and fittings in the Enfield line are matched to one another to ensure ease of installation and long-term reliability in FRPP chemical waste piping systems complying with ASTM F1412.
Installation of electrofusion acid waste fittings should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified corrosive-waste piping contractor familiar with IAPMO and applicable local plumbing code requirements. Before beginning any work, isolate and depressurize the waste system and ensure the pipe ends are clean, dry, and cut square to the fitting socket depth. Use only the manufacturer-specified Enfusion control unit — do not attempt to fuse joints with substitute equipment. Verify joint completion indicators before backfilling or concealing piping.
