The IPEX 257153 is a 4-inch flame-retardant polypropylene (FRPP) electrofusion coupling designed for corrosive chemical waste drainage systems. Part of the IPEX Enfield electrofusion-joint system, this coupling forms a secure, leak-resistant joint using a heavy-gauge resistance wire molded directly into the socket. A microprocessor-controlled fusion unit drives the joint process, producing reliable, repeatable connections in approximately 2 minutes. The Enfield system is manufactured from FRPP with an operating temperature range of -10 degrees F to 212 degrees F, allowing system flushing with boiling water. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors install this fitting in laboratory, industrial, and institutional drain systems handling corrosive waste.
The 257153 is suited for non-return-air-plenum chemical waste drain, waste, and vent applications in residential laboratory settings, commercial facilities, and industrial plants where acid waste drainage is required. The FRPP construction resists a broad range of corrosive chemicals, making it appropriate for laboratory drain systems, semiconductor fabs, pharmaceutical facilities, and similar environments. A non-flame-retardant polypropylene (NFRPP) version is also available separately for applications where flame-retardant classification is not required.
Designed for use within the IPEX Enfield electrofusion-joint system. Compatible pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1412 for polyolefin pipe and fittings for corrosive waste drainage systems and ASTM D4101 for polypropylene injection and extrusion materials. Listed to NSF 14 and IAPMO standards.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter familiar with electrofusion joining procedures and the Enfield Enfusion control unit. De-energize and isolate the waste system before making any connections to existing piping. Follow IPC and local plumbing code requirements for acid waste drainage systems, including proper venting and material approvals. Do not attempt to join Enfield FRPP fittings using solvent cement or mechanical methods — the electrofusion process is the only approved joining method for this system.
