The IO HVAC CONTROLS RAT-08 is an 8-inch retrofit air terminal designed for use in variable air volume (VAV) and single-duct HVAC distribution systems. It allows technicians to upgrade or replace existing air terminal units without full duct replacement, reducing labor and material costs on retrofit projects. The unit measures 11 x 15.25 x 13 inches and weighs 8.25 pounds, making it manageable for overhead installation in commercial ceiling plenum applications. Licensed HVAC technicians and mechanical contractors are the primary installers of this type of air terminal.
The RAT-08 is suited for retrofit applications in light commercial and commercial HVAC systems where an 8-inch duct connection is present. It is typically installed in drop-ceiling plenums, above grid ceilings in offices, schools, and similar occupied spaces. The retrofit design allows installation into existing ductwork infrastructure, minimizing disruption to the building envelope during system upgrades or control modernization projects.
Designed as an OEM-style retrofit replacement air terminal for 8-inch single-duct VAV and constant-volume air distribution systems in commercial HVAC applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or mechanical contractor in accordance with applicable mechanical codes, including SMACNA duct construction standards. Shut down the air handling unit and de-energize all associated controls before disconnecting the existing terminal. Verify duct collar alignment and secure all connections before restoring airflow. Control wiring should comply with NEC low-voltage requirements and the controller manufacturer specifications.
