The IO HVAC CONTROLS md-22 is a 2-inch medium duty no-hub coupling designed to connect no-hub cast iron drain, waste, and vent pipe without the use of a hub-and-spigot joint. The patented bi-directional corrugation shield transfers clamping pressure evenly across the gasket and pipe surface, creating a positive, leak-resistant seal. A 5/16-inch hex-head screw applies 80 inch-pounds of installation torque to the band and shield assembly. The elastomeric gasket meets ASTM C564 requirements and features strategically positioned grooves and beads that lock the shield in place when tightened. This coupling is intended for installation by licensed plumbers in commercial and residential drain systems.
The md-22 is suited for no-hub cast iron piping applications in residential and commercial plumbing systems, including drain, waste, and vent configurations. The distinctive yellow shield allows inspectors to quickly identify medium duty couplings on the job site. This coupling is engineered to replace less-efficient hub-and-spigot connections where code-compliant, no-hub joinery is required. It conforms to CISPI 310 and Factory Mutual CN 1680, and complies with ASTM C1540, IAPMO file 3198, Commonwealth of Massachusetts CMR-248, and City of New York MEA 253-98-E.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement coupling for 2-inch no-hub cast iron pipe connections in residential and commercial drain, waste, and vent systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off flow to the affected line and ensure the pipe ends are clean, cut square, and free of burrs before seating the gasket. Use a 5/16-inch hex driver to torque the clamp screws to the specified value per the coupling manufacturer instructions. Do not over-tighten beyond the rated torque, as this can damage the gasket or shield.
