The INTERNAL TOOL 20-1640 is a solid carbide interior grooving tool designed for cutting retaining ring grooves in bored holes. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for precision internal grooving on metal workpieces. The tool accepts a minimum hole diameter of 0.5 inches, cuts a groove width of 0.0950 inches, and features a right-hand cutting direction. The 0.5-inch shank fits standard boring bar holders and quick-change tooling systems. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this tool on CNC lathes, manual lathes, and boring mills where retaining ring grooves must be cut to tight dimensional tolerances.
This tool is suited for interior retaining ring groove applications in production and repair machining environments. It handles holes with a minimum bore of 0.5 inches and a maximum hole depth of 0.5 inches, making it appropriate for shallow internal groove work. The micrograin carbide construction supports dry cutting or use with coolant in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is a single-piece, solid carbide design with no adjusting screw and no undercut geometry, keeping setup straightforward on standard lathe toolposts.
Designed for use in any lathe or boring application requiring interior retaining ring grooves in holes at or above 0.5 inches in diameter with a depth up to 0.5 inches. Compatible with standard 0.5-inch shank toolholders and quick-change systems.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with internal grooving operations. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clamped to the manufacturer-specified setscrew torque for your toolholder. Verify hole diameter and depth clearances before beginning the cut to avoid tool breakage.
