The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6212812 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG series, designed for external turning operations on steel workpieces. It carries an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry, making it suitable for general-purpose roughing and finishing passes. The TT8105B grade features a multilayer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - applied over a carbide substrate to deliver wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. Licensed HVAC and industrial cutting tool technicians or machinists handling CNC lathe work will install this insert into compatible CNMG-style toolholders.
This insert fits CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with CNMG-style clamp-type toolholders. Its primary application is steel cutting, including carbon steels, alloy steels, and similar ferrous materials identified under ISO material group P. The PC chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during continuous turning cuts. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.256 inches and four available cutting edges per insert, it is suited to medium-to-heavy stock removal as well as light finishing work on steel components. The ISO designation for this insert is CNMG160612PC TT8105B.
Designed for use in CNMG-style clamp-type toolholders accepting inserts with a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thickness, and 80-degree diamond geometry. ISO designation CNMG160612PC TT8105B. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO Code P).
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual turning centers. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp screw; an incomplete seat can cause premature edge failure or dimensional deviation. Rotate to a fresh cutting edge when wear patterns develop rather than running an edge to failure, which risks workpiece damage and toolholder wear.
