The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6212666 is a VBMT-style diamond-shape carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on steel workpieces. It carries a 35-degree included angle and a 5-degree relief angle with a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for general-purpose turning and finishing passes. The TT8125B grade substrate is applied via CVD coating, combining an Al2O3 outer layer with TiCN and Titanium Nitride underlayers for improved wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 0.0310-inch corner radius and a chip breaker geometry designated FG, this insert targets controlled chip formation in ISO P-class steel materials. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is built for use in steel turning applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both production-shop and job-shop environments. The positive rake geometry and FG chip breaker make it well-suited for finishing and light-to-moderate roughing passes on carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar ISO P-class materials. Its screw-clamp holding method is compatible with standard VBMT insert pockets commonly found on indexable turning toolholders. The ISO designation for this insert is VBMT160408FG TT8125B.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for indexable turning toolholders with VBMT insert pockets accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, screw-clamp holding method, and clearance code B with tolerance code M.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists following standard indexable tooling procedures. Before changing or indexing the insert, power down the machine spindle completely and verify the machine is in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout protocols. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's recommendation - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a fresh cutting edge.
