The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6212204 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal turning operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features a triple-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance, thermal protection, and surface hardness suited for steel machining. The insert has a diamond shape (80-degree included angle) with a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.0160 inch corner radius. With a positive rake geometry and a PC chip breaker, it is engineered to produce controlled chip flow and consistent surface finishes. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily intended for turning steel workpieces, classified under ISO material code P. It fits standard CCMT insert holders with a screw-style clamping method and is suited for light to moderate depth-of-cut applications with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0790 inches. The 0.2500 inch inscribed circle and 0.2540 inch insert length make it compatible with toolholders designed for 1/4 inch IC CCMT inserts. It is appropriate for both roughing passes at moderate parameters and finishing operations where edge consistency is critical. The ANSI code is CCMT21.51PCTT8125B and the ISO code is CCMT060204PC TT8125B.
Designed for use in CCMT insert toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch inscribed circle insert with screw-style clamping. ANSI code CCMT21.51PCTT8125B and ISO code CCMT060204PC TT8125B identify the exact seat geometry required. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P).
This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key torque wrench recommended by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge registration and clamping force.
