Product Description

The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6188596 is a CNMG432 carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on steel workpieces. It carries the ISO designation CNMG120408MGP in grade TT8115B, a CVD-coated carbide grade with an Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake with negative side clearance, making it suitable for rigid toolholding setups. With four cutting edges per insert, it delivers cost-effective performance in finishing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers of this insert.

This insert is applied in turning operations where the primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material group P). The MGP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining passes, producing controlled chip flow at moderate depths of cut up to 0.197 inches. It fits standard CNMG-style toolholders that use a clamp holding method. Typical applications include external and internal turning on steel components in production and job-shop environments running CNC lathes or manual turning centers.

Key Features

  • Grade TT8115B with CVD-applied Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life on steel
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (shape code C) provides a strong cutting edge and versatile approach angles
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert reduce per-edge tooling cost
  • MGP chip breaker geometry suited for finishing and medium machining chip control
  • Negative rake and negative side clearance (clearance code N) support rigid, stable clamped toolholding
  • Maximum depth of cut of 0.197 inches supports a range of turning pass strategies

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fit for CNMG432 (ISO CNMG120408) clamp-style turning toolholders used in steel turning applications.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Disengage the machine spindle and ensure the turret or toolpost is in a safe, indexed position before seating or rotating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-torque the clamp, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain proper seating and edge location.
