The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6143088 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining environments. It carries an AlTiN and Titanium Nitride (TiN) PVD coating applied through a physical vapor deposition process, delivering heat resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. The insert measures 0.546 inches in length with a 0.313-inch inscribed circle and a 0.016-inch corner radius. With four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert suits CNC lathe and turning center applications where consistent edge life and dimensional accuracy are required. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary end users.
This insert is engineered for primary use on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S. The VNMX insert style features a 35-degree diamond shape with a negative rake and zero-degree relief angle, making it well-suited for stable, high-load finishing and semi-finishing passes. The FG chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation at moderate feeds and depths, keeping cut depths up to 0.079 inches. It fits turning applications in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing where difficult-to-machine alloys are common.
Designed for use in VNMX-series toolholders. ISO code designation is VNMX130404FG TT5080. Insert size code is 2.531. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamp compatibility before installation.
Turning insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification - do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Index or replace the insert when surface finish degradation or edge chipping is observed rather than running the insert to full failure.
