The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6104286 is a WNMG-style indexable turning insert engineered for machining cast iron. Built from solid carbide and coated with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer finish, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. The trigon insert shape provides an 80-degree included angle and six usable cutting edges per insert, making it an efficient choice for production turning operations. At a 0.031-inch corner radius and a maximum depth of cut of 0.079 inches, it is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where edge consistency matters. The TT7005 manufacturer grade is Ingersoll's designation for CVD-coated carbide optimized for ferrous cast materials.
This insert is intended for use in CNC lathes and turning centers in both production shop and job shop environments. Its WNMG 432 FG designation places it in a widely used insert size family. The FG chip breaker geometry is designed for cast iron turning applications where controlled chip formation reduces tool pressure and heat buildup. Machinists working on brake rotors, engine blocks, pump housings, and similar gray or ductile iron components will find this insert appropriate for their application. Installation requires a compatible WNMG-style clamp-style toolholder using the standard negative-rake seating geometry.
Designed for use in WNMG-style clamp-type turning toolholders that accept a 432 insert size with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and negative-rake seating. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (ISO material code K).
Indexable turning inserts are seated and clamped by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Always power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or movement during cutting.
