The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6000782 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TDJ series, grade TT9080, designed for grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and Titanium Nitride for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. It carries a 60-degree triangular profile with a 0.008-inch corner radius, a cutting width of 0.118 inches, and an overall length of 0.790 inches. The J chipbreaker geometry controls chip flow during interrupted and continuous grooving cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and hard materials as secondary applications. It is a double-ended insert, allowing both cutting edges to be used before replacement, which improves cost-per-edge efficiency in production turning environments. Typical applications include external and internal grooving, face grooving, and parting on production lathes where consistent tool life and predictable chip control are required. The neutral lead angle and neutral hand make it compatible with straight-shank toolholders designed for the TDJ3 insert seat size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for TDJ series toolholders accepting insert seat size 3. Compatible with clamp-style holding systems. ANSI and ISO designations are both listed as TDJ3, confirming cross-standard fitment in toolholders specifying that insert code.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, energy-isolated state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and accurate tool-height registration. Replace both cutting edges before the insert body shows edge chipping that could affect workpiece finish or dimensional accuracy.
