The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5809739 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in steel and cast iron applications. Conforming to ANSI and ISO standards under the AOMT110308R IN2040 designation, this insert features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life. With two sharp cutting edges and a positive rake geometry, the insert promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. It measures 0.449 inches in length, 0.283 inches in inscribed circle diameter, and 0.155 inches in thickness, with a corner radius of 1/32 inch.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The AOMT series design makes it compatible with cutter bodies in the 12J1F and 2J1F series. It is a single-sided insert held in place by screw clamping, making it a practical choice for face milling and shoulder milling setups where consistent edge positioning is required. No chip breaker geometry is present, keeping the cutting edge profile simple and predictable for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Compatible with INGERSOLL cutter series 12J1F and 2J1F. Designed as a screw-held, single-sided replacement insert for AOMT-style milling cutter bodies accepting AOMT110308R geometry inserts.
Installation of milling inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully powered down and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specified value - do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Index or replace the insert when cutting edge wear affects surface finish or dimensional accuracy.
