The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5702705 is a TNGA-style ceramic turning insert designed for precision machining of hardened steel. Built to ISO code TNGA220408, this triangular insert features a negative rake geometry and a manufacturer grade of AB2010 with a multilayer PVD coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and Titanium Nitride. The combination of ceramic substrate and advanced coating delivers thermal resistance and wear performance in demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. It is installed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians working on turning centers and lathes.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations on hardened steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The TNGA geometry with neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of toolholder configurations. The A-style chip breaker supports controlled chip flow at typical hardened-steel cutting parameters. Six cutting edges per insert reduce per-edge tooling cost in high-volume turning applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for TNGA-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with clamp holding and a 0.1500-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten, as ceramic inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture from excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
