The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5700349 is a ceramic uncoated turning insert in the CNMG series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code CNMG431CEAB30 and ISO code CNMG120404CE AB30, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle and a 0-degree relief angle. It carries manufacturer grade AB30 with a CE chip breaker geometry. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inches), it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert is intended for turning applications on cast iron and hardened steel workpieces, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes K and H. The CE chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow on difficult-to-machine ferrous materials. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it suitable for use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholders depending on the setup. Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light profiling passes on production or job-shop turning equipment. The clamp-style insert holding method ensures secure seating in compatible CNMG-style toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond inserts with clamp-style holding. Compatible with toolholders specified for ANSI code CNMG431 inserts.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout/tagout procedures followed before accessing the turret or toolpost. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver to secure the insert clamp without overtightening. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the programmed tool path before resuming cutting operations.
