The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523205 is a CCGT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision machining of stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries the ANSI code CCGT32.50.5 and ISO code CCGT09T302, with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape and a 7-degree relief angle. The PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating delivers high wear resistance with a balance of toughness, making this insert well suited for roughing and medium machining passes where tool life and edge stability are critical. It uses a positive rake and positive side clearance geometry, and is held in place by a screw-clamp toolholder. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is applied in turning operations targeting stainless steel (ISO material group M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO material group S). The SA chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, managing chip flow effectively when cutting tough, work-hardening materials. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0600 inches and a corner radius of 0.0080 inches, it is suited to moderate stock removal with controlled surface finishes. It is used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in screw-clamp toolholders that accept CCGT32.50.5 (ANSI) or CCGT09T302 (ISO) inserts with a 0.1730-inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw specification before installation.
Insert replacement is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the correct torque driver or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamping screw - do not over-tighten or use improvised tools. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp.
