The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523146 is a CPMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in finishing and medium machining operations. It carries ANSI insert code CPMT21.52 and ISO insert code CPMT060208PC TT5080. The insert features a PVD-applied AlTiN plus TiN dual coating in manufacturer grade TT5080, delivering high wear resistance with moderate toughness. The diamond (rhombic) 80-degree insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a positive rake and positive side clearance. With a corner radius of 0.0310 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0790 inches, this insert is suited to controlled, close-tolerance turning passes on difficult-to-machine materials. A licensed machinist or CNC turning specialist typically installs and indexes this insert.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces - primary material codes M and S. Its PC chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing to medium machining chip control on these tough materials. The screw-hold mounting method and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with a wide range of CPMT-compatible toolholders used in both CNC turning centers and manual lathes in industrial and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CPMT-compatible screw-clamp toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO material code M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO material code S). ANSI size code 21.52 and ISO size code 060208 should be used to confirm toolholder fitment.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder seat and screw threads for wear or contamination before seating a new insert. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable machine tool standards when handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
