The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523050 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG series, grade TT5080, designed for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). The TT5080 grade is PVD-coated with AlTiN and TiN layers, optimizing edge life and heat resistance in demanding cutting applications. With four usable cutting edges and an MP chip breaker geometry, this insert is intended for machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium - workpiece material codes M and S. It suits roughing to semi-finishing passes where chip control is critical and tool life consistency is required. The CNMG431MP geometry with MP chip breaker handles variable feed rates and interrupted cuts common in aerospace, energy, and medical component work. It seats in standard CNMG clamp-style toolholders and is appropriate for both manual CNC programming and CAM-driven toolpaths where controlled chip evacuation is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CNMG clamp-style turning toolholders accepting 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond inserts with a 3/16-inch insert thickness and N clearance, M tolerance designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully stopped and the spindle is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Confirm seating and clamp engagement before resuming cutting operations, and verify depth-of-cut settings against the maximum recommended 0.1570-inch depth for this insert geometry.
