The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5523033 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle, making it well suited for light to medium turning passes. The insert is PVD-coated with AlTiN and Titanium Nitride layers, delivering heat resistance and extended edge life in demanding cuts. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.016-inch corner radius, it is sized for toolholders matching the DCMT standard. Installation and replacement are handled by licensed machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily specified for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials. The FG chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface finish and chip control are critical. It holds a neutral hand orientation, making it compatible with standard DCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. The TT5080 grade is Ingersoll's designation for this PVD-coated carbide formulation optimized for ISO M and S material groups. Typical applications include aerospace component turning, medical-grade stainless work, and high-nickel alloy finishing where edge integrity and coating adhesion are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment insert for DCMT-series screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert. ISO equivalent designation is DCMT11T304FG TT5080.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification without overtightening, which can crack the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Dispose of used carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for carbide and coated tool waste.
