The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5522849 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TT9080 grade designation and features a dual-layer AlTiN and Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has a 55-degree diamond shape with a 0.016 inch corner radius, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle (0.375 inch), and an overall length of 0.457 inches. The neutral hand orientation and positive rake geometry support efficient chip flow and reduced cutting forces. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician installs this insert into a compatible DCMT-style toolholder.
This insert is suited for turning steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing applications where a consistent, tight-tolerance edge is required. The PC chip breaker geometry controls chip formation across a range of feed rates and depths. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches and screw-type insert holding, it fits standard DCMT toolholder pockets used on production turning equipment. The two cutting edges per insert support cost-effective indexing in high-cycle shop environments. It is appropriate for both light and moderate material removal on challenging workpiece materials.
Designed for use in standard DCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. ISO code reference: DCMT11T304PC TT9080. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloys, and titanium (S). Verify toolholder pocket tolerance and insert seat condition before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to tighten the clamp screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips, burrs, or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm the chip breaker orientation matches the intended cutting direction.
