The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5522842 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the CNMG432EA geometry and TT9080 manufacturer grade. It features a physical vapor deposition (PVD)-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating over a carbide substrate, combining moderate wear resistance with high toughness. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, neutral hand orientation, and negative rake and side clearance make it well suited for finishing operations. With a 0.500-inch inscribed circle, a 0.508-inch insert length, and a 0.031-inch corner radius, this insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists on engine lathes and turning centers where tight tolerances and controlled chip formation are required.
This insert is designed for finishing-pass turning of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. It carries ISO material codes P, M, and S, covering a broad range of alloy classifications common in aerospace, energy, and general machining environments. The EA chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.060 inches. The CNMG series format and clamp-held mounting style make it a standard configuration compatible with the wide range of CNMG-style toolholders used in production and job-shop turning operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNMG432-style insert seats; compatible with standard CNMG-format clamp-style turning toolholders. ISO equivalent code is CNMG120408EA TT9080.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine in a de-energized, zero-energy state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp; do not overtighten. Verify insert seating is fully flush against the pocket before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition at each index to avoid running a degraded edge on finishing passes.
