Product Description

The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5521726 is a CNMG-style turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide and CVD-coated with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer system, this insert delivers high thermal resistance and wear protection during demanding turning operations. The ANSI designation is CNMG542EM TT9215, grade TT9215. It features a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.031-inch corner radius, and an 80-degree diamond shape. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in clamp-style toolholders for high-accuracy turning passes on difficult-to-machine materials.

This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium, where heat and work-hardening are primary concerns. The EM chip breaker geometry and negative rake design help control chip formation and cutting forces in these demanding material categories. It is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where a maximum depth of cut up to 0.250 inches is required. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with a wide range of standard CNMG-format toolholders used in production and job-shop environments.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate with CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating for high wear and heat resistance
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) with neutral hand orientation
  • EM chip breaker geometry optimized for stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium
  • Negative rake and 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N) for stable clamped cutting
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert for extended tool life and lower cost per edge
  • Maximum depth of cut of 0.250 inches; 0.031-inch corner radius for controlled surface finish

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMG542 series clamp-style turning insert toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick diamond insert. ISO equivalent code is CNMG160608EM TT9215. Primary workpiece material codes M and S correspond to stainless steel and super-alloys including titanium.

Installation Notes

Turning inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing any insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert to prevent insert rocking or premature failure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new cutting edge.
