Product Description

The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5520540 is a CNMG432 carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built to ISO code CNMG120408, this insert features a manufacturer grade of TT9225 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN. The coating stack delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions while maintaining toughness against edge failure. With a negative rake and negative side clearance geometry, it is engineered for stable, controlled cuts in finishing and medium machining operations. The insert has 4 usable cutting edges and is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder.

This insert is intended for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium - workpiece material codes M and S. It is suited for both finishing and medium machining passes in industrial CNC turning centers and manual lathes where chip control and edge life are priorities. The PC chip breaker geometry is optimized to manage chip flow on tough, stringy materials. Applications span aerospace, medical, and energy sector components where stainless and nickel-based superalloys are common workpiece materials.

Key Features

  • TT9225 grade with CVD-applied Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for high wear resistance
  • 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape - code C - provides a strong cutting edge with good approach angle versatility
  • PC chip breaker optimized for finishing and medium machining of stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium
  • 4 usable cutting edges maximize insert utilization and reduce tooling cost per edge
  • Neutral hand orientation fits standard CNMG toolholders without handedness restrictions
  • Negative rake and clamp-style holding provide rigidity and resistance to insert movement under load

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CNMG432 clamp-style turning toolholders accepting a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle carbide insert with negative rake geometry.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw for the toolholder to secure the insert - do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect runout and edge life.
