The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5520473 is a CNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning applications. Manufactured to ANSI code CNMG431PC TT9215 and ISO code CNMG120404PC TT9215, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides strong cutting geometry with a 0.016 inch corner radius and a 0.508 inch insert length. With a negative rake and neutral hand orientation, it is suited for stable, rigid setups where consistent tool life and surface finish are critical priorities.
This insert is primarily intended for turning stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium - material groups classified as ISO M and S workpiece materials. These are demanding materials that generate high cutting heat and require the thermal and chemical resistance that the TT9215 grade CVD coating provides. The PC chip breaker geometry assists with chip control during medium to finishing depth cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.196 inch. It is installed in a standard CNMG toolholder using a top clamp holding method and is appropriate for production turning environments in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, size code 431 insert with a top clamp holding method. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and insert size code before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw for the CNMG toolholder system. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before placing a new insert. Follow the cutting tool manufacturer and machine tool builder guidelines for feed rates and speeds appropriate to the workpiece material grade.
