The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5518019 is an XCMT-style indexable drill insert designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding industrial drilling applications. Manufactured from solid carbide with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert delivers grade TT9030 cutting performance in a neutral-hand, double-edged configuration. The insert features an 83.5-degree diamond shape with a 0.685-inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.219 inches, and a corner radius of 0.031 inches. The TC chipbreaker geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Licensed HVAC techs and trades aside, this part is specified and installed by machinists and toolroom professionals working in CNC and indexable tooling systems.
This insert is suited for use in indexable drill bodies configured for XCMT-style seating. It performs in operations targeting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. The positive rake geometry and 7-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces on difficult-to-machine materials. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers and turning centers where repeatable insert indexing and consistent tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in indexable drill bodies that accept XCMT-style inserts with insert size code 170508. Suitable for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO codes P, M, and S).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the drill body manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and accurate positioning. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or surface finish degradation on the workpiece.
