The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5515703 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the manufacturer grade TT8020 with a PVD-applied TiCN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake geometry with an MT chip breaker. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and consistent chip control are required. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians, this insert fits standard CCMT-style screw-lock toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, and super-alloys including titanium. It is commonly used in job-shop and production environments where a single insert grade must handle varied ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The MT chip breaker geometry manages chip flow at moderate feed rates, making it appropriate for both roughing light cuts and finish turning on interrupted or continuous cuts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.079 inches, positioning this insert for finishing and light semi-finishing applications rather than heavy stock removal.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for CCMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with ANSI code CCMT21.51MT. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, and super-alloys and titanium (ISO material codes M, P, and S).
This insert is installed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians into a compatible CCMT screw-lock toolholder. Always index or replace inserts with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification only; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force.
