The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5515074 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries ANSI insert code TNMG432 and ISO insert code TNMG220408ML, and is finished with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating in grade TT5100. The triangular 60-degree geometry provides six cutting edges per insert, and the ML chip breaker geometry is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. Licensed machinists, tool and die specialists, and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is applied in turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces where moderate wear resistance combined with high toughness is required. The ML chip breaker handles both roughing and medium machining scenarios, making it a practical choice across a range of material removal rates. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard TNMG-style holders without directional restriction. Grade TT5100 is optimized for ISO P and M material groups, covering carbon steels and austenitic stainless steels commonly encountered in general machining and production turning environments.
Designed for use in TNMG-series clamp-style turning toolholders that accept a 432 ANSI size code insert with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and negative side clearance. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) per grade TT5100 characteristics.
This insert is seated and secured by a clamp-style toolholder; ensure the pocket seat and clamp are clean and free of chips before seating to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts on any lathe or turning center. Index to the next cutting edge only after confirming the machine is fully stopped. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamp screw, as over-tightening can fracture carbide inserts.
