The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5514708 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN) via a PVD process, it delivers wear resistance and edge integrity across demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The MT chip breaker geometry and negative rake angle make it well suited for medium to finishing passes on difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible CNMG toolholders.
This insert is engineered for turning operations on stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, super-alloys, and titanium. The TT8020 grade with PVD TiCN coating is specifically selected for its toughness and thermal stability when cutting ISO material groups M, P, and S. It fits into standard CNMG clamp-style toolholders and is suited for both roughing at conservative parameters and semi-finishing applications where a controlled chip form is critical. With four cutting edges per insert, it provides multiple usable edges before replacement, reducing tooling cost per part.
Designed for use in standard CNMG clamp-style indexable toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.203-inch hole diameter. Compatible with ISO material groups M (stainless steel), P (carbon and alloy steel), and S (super-alloys and titanium). ANSI code CNMG432MTTT8020; ISO code CNMG120408MT TT8020.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert correctly against the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new edge.
