The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5512920 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCGT series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle, a 0.031 inch corner radius, and an overall length of 0.382 inches. The insert is uncoated (bright finish), ground to a positive rake geometry, and carries the FL chip breaker configuration. Manufactured to ISO standard grade K10, it is suited for finishing and light semi-finishing cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments typically install and index this insert.
This insert is engineered for use on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, making it applicable across aerospace, automotive, and general machining applications. The positive rake geometry and FL chip breaker promote clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces, which is particularly advantageous when machining superalloys and titanium where heat generation must be controlled. It is held in the toolholder via a screw-lock method and carries a neutral hand designation, fitting both right-hand and left-hand compatible toolholders within the CCGT insert family.
Designed as a screw-lock replacement insert for CCGT-series toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with a clearance code C and tolerance code G. Verify toolholder pocket geometry against ISO CCGT09T308FL specifications before installation.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing or indexing an insert, shut down the spindle completely and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full, flat contact.
