The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5140223 is a square, 90-degree indexable drill insert designed for use in compatible Q-style indexable drills. Manufactured from carbide with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, this insert carries manufacturer grade IN1030 and delivers four usable cutting edges per insert. The inscribed circle measures 0.563 inches, thickness is 0.212 inches, and the corner radius is 0.047 inches. The positive rake geometry and PH chipbreaker work together to control chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces during drilling operations. Licensed tradespeople and tooling specialists install this insert as a replaceable cutting element within the drill body.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), and super-alloys and titanium (K). It fits the SPLT-N-PH series and is identified by ANSI and ISO code SPLT140512N-PH, insert size code 14, and insert size designation 140512. Typical applications include production drilling in metalworking, machining centers, and CNC turning operations where consistent hole quality and tool economy are priorities. The neutral cutting direction makes it suitable for a range of setups without directional limitation.
Designed for use with Q-style compatible indexable drill bodies in the SPLT-N-PH series. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces. Verify insert size code 14 and seat geometry against your drill body specification before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert clamp screw - do not overtighten by feel alone; follow the drill body manufacturer torque specification for the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and hole quality. Never attempt to re-use a fully worn or chipped cutting edge.
