The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5101041 is a square-shaped, carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in compatible Q-style indexable drills. Manufactured in the SHGT-HP series, this insert features a fine grain carbide substrate in grade IN10K with a bright uncoated finish, making it well suited for cutting non-ferrous metals. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per hole. The positive rake geometry and HP chipbreaker promote free-cutting action and chip control in demanding drilling applications. At 0.385 inches inscribed circle and 0.169 inches thick with a 0.03 inch corner radius, this insert fits precise toolholder pockets requiring the SHGT090408-HP ANSI/ISO specification.
This insert is intended for drilling operations in non-ferrous metal workpieces, including aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials. It is commonly used in production shop environments on CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drill presses where indexable drill bodies accept Q-style inserts. The HP chipbreaker geometry assists with chip evacuation at higher feed rates typical in non-ferrous applications. Machinists and toolroom professionals specify this insert when consistent hole quality and repeatable tool life are required across multiple drilling cycles.
Designed for use in Q-style compatible indexable drill bodies accepting SHGT090408-HP inserts per ANSI and ISO designation. Verify pocket and clamping specifications against the drill body documentation before ordering.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, energy-isolated state following lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat and clamp the insert securely in the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Do not run the tool if the insert is not fully seated or if the clamping mechanism shows signs of damage.
