The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 5101003 is a carbide indexable drill insert engineered for use in indexable drill bodies across metalworking and machining applications. Designated by insert style SHLT11FS and manufacturer grade IN2005, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. The square insert geometry provides four usable cutting edges, reducing cost-per-edge in production drilling environments. The inscribed circle measures 0.435 inches, thickness is 0.181 inches, and the corner radius is 0.031 inches. Installation and indexing are handled by machinists and toolroom technicians working with compatible indexable drill systems.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials, including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Compatible drill styles include the 15C, 15S, and DHU series indexable drill bodies. The positive rake geometry and FS chipbreaker promote efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling in both production shop and job-shop settings.
Compatible with 15C, 15S, and DHU series indexable drill bodies. Insert size code 11, insert size designation 110408. Refer to the drill body manufacturer documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamping screw specifications before installation.
Indexable drill inserts are seated and torqued by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the drill body is fully secured in the spindle and the machine is powered down and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer for the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or wear before installing a fresh cutting edge.
