The IMPORT 27555 is a wire-gauge size 55 jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials. It is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating that provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during operation. The 118-degree standard point angle suits flat and moderately hard materials common in trade and light industrial environments. At 1-7/8 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch flute length, this bit is compact and suited to tight-access drilling. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks. Installation of small-diameter control wiring penetrations, pilot holes, and mounting clearances in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing rough-in work are typical use cases.
This bit is appropriate for residential and commercial trade applications where a small-diameter, short-length drill is needed. Wire-gauge size 55 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.052 inches, making it useful for pilot holes, tapping prep, and precision clearance drilling. Right-hand spiral flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in through-hole drilling. The oxide finish is suited for dry or lightly lubricated cutting conditions. This is a single-piece unit sold individually, though the minimum order quantity is 12 pieces.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks within the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch decimal inch size range.
This drill bit is used by HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, and general trade mechanics for small-diameter drilling tasks. Secure the workpiece and ensure the drill chuck is tightened fully before operation. Use appropriate eye protection and follow applicable OSHA and site safety requirements. At this diameter, bit breakage risk increases with lateral loading, so drill perpendicular to the work surface and avoid excessive feed pressure.
