The IDEAL INDUSTRIES 6223M8G is a standard no-hub coupling designed for joining 8-inch cast iron drain, waste, and vent (DWV) pipe in residential and commercial plumbing systems. Its one-piece housing design eliminates the leak paths that can occur in stacked or welded clamp assemblies, providing a reliable seal without the structural complexity of heavy-duty reinforced couplings. The coupling ships with a vulcanized compound gasket meeting ASTM C564 and uses four 301 stainless steel clamp bands torqued to 60 inch-pounds for a consistent, repeatable connection. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of fitting.
This coupling is suited for straight, in-line connections in gravity-flow DWV systems where pipe alignment is maintained and structural reinforcement of the joint is not required. It serves as a cost-effective alternative in applications such as residential drain lines, commercial stack extensions, and repair splices in existing no-hub cast iron systems. The fitting covers both the A and B ends at 8 inches, making it a direct straight coupling with no hub-to-hub offset.
Designed as an OEM-style no-hub coupling for 8-inch no-hub cast iron DWV pipe conforming to CISPI 310 standards, meeting IAPMO and NSF requirements for drain, waste, and vent applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local codes. Shut off flow and ensure the pipe is drained and dry before fitting the coupling over the pipe ends. Tighten all four clamp bands evenly to the rated 60 inch-pound torque using a torque-limiting driver to avoid over-compression of the gasket. This coupling is rated for standard no-hub DWV service and is not intended for applications requiring shielded heavy-duty couplings where structural reinforcement of the joint is specified.
