The IDEAL 46-384 is a heat shrink end cap designed to seal and insulate the cut ends of large-gauge conductors ranging from 500 to 1000 MCM. Applied with a heat gun, the cap shrinks tightly around the conductor end to create a moisture-resistant, insulated termination. This type of end cap is standard practice when dead-ending large cable runs in commercial and industrial electrical installations. Electricians use it to protect exposed conductor ends from moisture intrusion, oxidation, and accidental contact during and after installation.
The 46-384 is suited for large-conductor applications in commercial construction, industrial facilities, utility work, and infrastructure projects where 500 to 1000 MCM cable is common. Typical uses include sealing spare conductors in pull boxes, protecting dead-ended feeders, and capping cable ends during phased construction. The heat shrink construction provides a durable, long-lasting termination without the need for tape buildup or mechanical end caps.
Designed for use on copper or aluminum conductors sized 500 MCM through 1000 MCM in commercial and industrial electrical installations.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians following applicable NEC guidelines. De-energize and lock out the circuit before handling any conductor end. Slide the cap fully over the conductor end and apply uniform heat with a heat gun, working from the closed end outward, until the cap has shrunk evenly and seated firmly. Avoid using an open flame, as uneven heat can damage the cap or leave an incomplete seal.
