The IDEAL 46-381 is a heat shrink end cap designed to seal and protect the exposed ends of electrical conductors ranging from 12 AWG to 6 AWG. When heat is applied, the cap shrinks down to form a tight, insulating seal over the wire end, preventing moisture intrusion, corrosion, and accidental contact. This type of end cap is commonly used in electrical and low-voltage wiring applications where wire terminations need environmental protection. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install these during panel work, outdoor wiring runs, and any application where conductor ends must be capped and sealed against the elements.
The 46-381 is suited for residential and commercial electrical work where bare wire ends require insulation and moisture protection. Typical use cases include sealing unused conductors in junction boxes, protecting wire ends on outdoor or underground circuits, and finishing off multi-conductor cable terminations. The 12 to 6 AWG size range makes it appropriate for branch circuit conductors and feeder-side applications commonly encountered in service work and new construction installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement end cap for use with 12 AWG to 6 AWG electrical conductors in residential and commercial wiring applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before handling any conductors. Slide the end cap over the stripped or bare wire end and apply a heat gun evenly around the cap until it shrinks to a firm, uniform fit. Avoid using an open flame, as uneven heat can damage the cap or the conductor insulation.
