The IDEAL 46-322 is a thin-wall, polyolefin heat shrink tubing rated for 600 volts and designed for electrical insulation, wire bundling, and protection of in-line components, disconnect terminals, and splices. It carries a 2:1 shrink ratio with a minimum expanded diameter of 0.539 inches and a maximum recovered diameter of 0.252 inches, making it well-suited for cable sizes from 4 to 1 AWG. At 6 inches in length and 0.026 inches wall thickness, this tubing activates at 70 degrees C. It is flame retardant, UV resistant, and resistant to common fluids and solvents. UL 224 and 486D listed for use in both Canada and the US.
This tubing is used in commercial and residential electrical work wherever wire splices, terminals, or in-line components need insulation and mechanical protection. It handles light-duty wire harness bundling where flexibility is required. Licensed electricians and electrical maintenance technicians install this product during panel work, control wiring, and field splice repairs. The wide temperature rating of -55 to 125 degrees C makes it functional in both indoor and outdoor environments, including locations with UV exposure or chemical contact.
Designed for use with cable sizes from 4 to 1 AWG. Fits applications requiring a nominal 1/2 inch heat shrink tubing for electrical insulation and splice protection per UL 224 and 486D standards.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians following applicable NEC guidelines. De-energize all circuits before applying heat shrink tubing to terminals, splices, or conductors. Use a heat gun to apply uniform, controlled heat around the tubing until full shrinkage is achieved — avoid open flame, which can damage the tubing or surrounding insulation. Do not stretch or over-expand the tubing prior to installation beyond the stated expanded diameter.
