The IDEAL 46-316 is a thin-wall, polyolefin heat shrink tubing rated for 600 volts and designed to electrically insulate and protect in-line components, disconnect terminals, splices, and wire bundles. Each piece measures 6 inches in length with a nominal size of 1/4 inch, a minimum expanded diameter of 0.268 inches, and a maximum recovered diameter of 0.126 inches at a 2:1 shrink ratio. The wall thickness is 0.022 inches. Licensed electricians and low-voltage technicians use this tubing during panel work, harness fabrication, and field splice protection. It activates at a shrink temperature of 70 degrees C and carries a continuous temperature rating of -55 to 125 degrees C.
This tubing is suited for residential and commercial electrical applications where a lightweight, flexible insulation sleeve is required. It accommodates conductor sizes from 14 to 8 AWG, making it a practical choice for branch circuit splices, terminal insulation, and light-duty wire harness bundling. The polyolefin construction resists common fluids, solvents, and UV exposure, and the material provides high flame retardancy with good copper corrosion resistance. It is sold individually as a single 6-inch piece.
Designed as an OEM-style insulation solution for 14 to 8 AWG conductors in standard residential and commercial electrical wiring applications where 600-volt-rated, thin-wall heat shrink sleeving is required.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out all circuits before applying heat shrink tubing to any termination or splice. Use a calibrated heat gun to apply even, controlled heat around the tubing; avoid open flame, which can cause uneven shrink and material degradation. Ensure the tubing is fully seated over the connection before applying heat to achieve proper recovery and insulation coverage.
