The IDEAL 35-078 is a drill-powered cable cutter designed for cutting copper cable up to 750 MCM and aluminum cable up to 1000 MCM. It attaches to a standard drill to deliver mechanical cutting force, reducing hand fatigue on high-volume jobs. The tool features specially hardened, rounded blades that minimize cable distortion and produce clean, professional cuts. A 1.5-inch jaw opening accommodates large-diameter conductors common in commercial and industrial electrical work. A K-8906R replacement blade is included. Licensed electricians and wiremen are the primary users of this tool on feeder and service entrance installations.
The 35-078 is suited for electrical contractors and journeymen working on feeder runs, service entrance conductors, and large-format wiring in commercial, industrial, and utility applications. The drill-powered design makes it practical for extended cutting tasks where manual cable cutters create fatigue. It handles both copper and aluminum conductors, making it versatile across the range of conductor materials encountered in commercial panel work, transformer connections, and switchgear installations.
Designed for use with standard drills; suitable for copper and aluminum conductors up to 750 MCM and 1000 MCM respectively. Compatible replacement blade is the K-8906R.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the NEC and applicable local codes. De-energize and verify absence of voltage on all conductors before cutting. Secure the drill and conductor firmly before operation to prevent slipping. Inspect blades before each use and replace with the K-8906R when wear or chipping is evident.
