The ICM CONTROLS 2901 is an intermittent pilot gas ignition control module operating at 24 volts AC. It manages the ignition sequence for gas-fired heating systems by energizing the pilot valve, establishing a pilot flame, and proving ignition before opening the main gas valve. With a trial-for-ignition period of 85 seconds and no retry on failure, the control locks out on unsuccessful ignition attempts, protecting the system from unburned gas accumulation. Licensed HVAC technicians install this control as part of routine gas valve and ignition system service on residential and light commercial heating equipment.
The 2901 is suited for gas furnaces, boilers, and other heating appliances that use an intermittent pilot ignition system. It is designed for installations where a single ignition trial per call for heat is required, with lockout on failure rather than automatic retry. The control operates across a wide temperature range of -40 degrees F to 160 degrees F, making it appropriate for equipment installed in unconditioned spaces such as attics, crawlspaces, and mechanical rooms. The anticipator setting of 0.2A plus valve load at 24 VAC must be matched to the thermostat in use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement intermittent pilot ignition control for residential and light commercial gas-fired heating appliances requiring a 24-volt, single-trial ignition sequence with lockout on failure.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local codes and the appliance manufacturer's wiring diagram. Shut off gas supply and disconnect power to the heating unit before removing the existing control module. Verify that the replacement control's trial-for-ignition timing and lockout behavior are compatible with the appliance's ignition system design before energizing. Refer to the IFGC and applicable local gas codes for guidance on gas appliance controls and service procedures.
